What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to keep. They are sent back to the site on every subsequent request, which is what lets a site recognise a returning visitor. Session cookies disappear when you close the browser; persistent cookies stay until they expire or you delete them.
Local storage is a related but separate technology. It also keeps small pieces of data on your device, but unlike a cookie it is never sent to a server. It is read only by JavaScript running on the page you are already looking at.
What this site uses
A single local storage entry that remembers which button you pressed on the banner, plus Google Analytics cookies, which stay switched off until you accept them.

There is no advertising on this site, so no advertising network is setting anything here. If that changes, this page will be updated before the ads appear rather than after.
Nothing runs before you choose
Everything here runs under Google Consent Mode, and every consent signal is set to denied by default. That default is applied before any third-party tag executes, so on your first visit no cookie is written and nothing is recorded, even though the scripts are present on the page.
Pressing Accept switches four signals from denied to granted: analytics storage, ad storage, ad user data and ad personalisation. Only the first is actually used today, because there is no advertising here, but all four are named so the picture is complete.
Pressing Decline leaves all four denied. The banner disappears, your choice is remembered, and no analytics cookie is ever written. Every calculator on the site works identically either way. Declining costs you nothing.
What the analytics data shows us
Aggregate numbers: which calculators get used, roughly where visitors are in the world, which pages people land on, and whether something is broken on a particular browser. It is how we decide which calculator to build next.
It does not include anything you type. The dimensions, prices and lawn sizes you enter are worked out in your browser and never transmitted, with or without consent. That is a property of how the calculators are built rather than a promise about configuration.
Changing your mind
Click Cookie Preferences at the bottom of any page. That clears your stored choice, sets every consent signal back to denied and reloads the page, so the banner reappears and you can choose again.
You can also clear cookies through your browser settings, use Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on for a blanket opt-out across all sites, or block cookies for this domain entirely. Nothing here breaks if you do.
Changes to this policy
If what the site stores ever changes, this page is updated first and the date at the top changes with it. We would rather tell you plainly than quietly alter what happens on your device.
