Landscaping Material Calculators for Every Yard Job

Work out how much topsoil, gravel, stone or grass seed your project needs, in the units your supplier actually quotes in. Then what it costs and what it weighs. Every page shows its working, so you can check the number rather than take it on trust.

0.62cubic yards
0.62tons
23bags (0.75 cu ft)

Typical dry weight. For depth presets, coverage, cost and delivery, see the full Topsoil calculator.

All calculators and guides

Grouped by material. The calculators return cubic yards, tons and a bag count, because quarries quote by weight, yards load by volume and garden centers sell bags, and the three rarely agree. The cost and weight pages answer what that quantity works out to in money and in pounds.

How the calculators work

  1. Enter your area and depth. Measure in feet or meters, or take a preset depth for a path, a driveway, a garden bed or a lawn under sod.
  2. Get yards, tons and bags together. Suppliers quote in different units, so every result shows all three and tells you which one to order in.
  3. Check it against the chart. Each page carries a coverage or weight table beside the tool, drawn from the same figures, so a chart can never disagree with the calculator next to it.
