What connects these three
Soil comes in layers, and each of these tools is about a different one. Fill dirt is the subsoil you build volume with. Topsoil is the growing layer that goes on top of it. Compost is what you mix into that layer to keep it alive. Use the wrong one and you either pay far too much or grow nothing.
They share their arithmetic though. Area times depth, converted to cubic yards, then weighed. And they share one weight table, so a chart on one page can never disagree with the tool on another.
